Overview of the life of Jason & Barb Milstead on their deep east texas horse ranch.

his morning as I sat out on my steamy front porch with my coffee and my funny looking cur dog, some thoughts came to mind.

We live out here in the woods, down a dirt road.  Our vehicles are never clean.  Ever. The dusty, or sometimes muddy, dirt road takes care of that the moment we drive back from the car wash in town.  We live where the rooster starts his business at about 4:30 am, whether we are ready for his racket or not. So of course there’s a lot of things that would be more convenient if we lived in a subdivision in town.  Groceries would be easier to get.  Church wouldn’t be as long of a drive to get to etc.

But for us, that sure would be inconvenient. We would have to deal with “town stuff”.  Close neighbors. Smoggy air. Traffic… ick. So we choose this country life instead.  And as I watched the red cardinal birds assaulting my fig tree this morning I knew I wouldn’t trade this country life for anything.  If you’re reading this you probably feel the same way.  So, here’s to us!  The people who like things, inconvenient.

Keep it country,

Barb
